What is Austin Health Partners?
You may have seen “Austin Health Partners” on a billing statement or on a form. We are a proud member of Austin Health Partners (AHP) – a physician-led healthcare supergroup. Dr. Addy, Dr. Unite, Dr. Travis, and Dr. Chang helped found and actively manage AHP with two other independent practices in the area.
As a part of AHP, we share a central business office that runs our billing and back end operations so we can focus on providing extraordinary care. We are also able to provide services such as Behavioral Health Consultants, flu shots before the beginning of flu season, COVID Vaccines/Boosters, and anything your child may need. Ultimately, AHP helps us provide the services that patients need when they need it.

May I complete my new patient paperwork before I arrive?

Yes.  A few days prior to your first appointment, you will receive our pre-registration text or email from Phreesia.  You may register your child/children from the comfort of your home or arrive 10 minutes early and we can set it up for you in the office.

How do I get advice about my child’s symptoms?

Our highly skilled Triage Team provides advice via phone calls. You may call any time during our regular office hours for answers to your questions.  In the event that our Triage Team can’t help you with a problem, it will be passed on to one of the providers. Urgent after-hours questions are handled by an off site pediatric nurse triage.

What if I have questions after the office is closed?

If you are in need of advice while we are closed, please call Triage 4 Pediatrics, our after-hours triage, at 855.805.4871.  There is a $20 fee for this call.

What is a Annual Wellness Exam?

The “Annual Wellness Exam” is a visit dedicated to reviewing the routine aspects of your child’s health (feeding/nutrition, sleep, behavior and development, etc.). An Annual Wellness Exam can also be referred to as a Well Child Check, Annual Wellness Check, or Check Up.  These visits also include immunizations and education regarding routine preventive care. We always provide adequate time to answer any questions you may have about your child.

How often should I schedule an Annual Wellness Exam for my child?

We follow the schedule of routine well child visits established by the American Academy of Pediatrics. We start with an initial newborn a day or 2 after you have been discharged from the hospital with well check visits starting 2 weeks after your child is born. Routine well child visits are then scheduled at 2, 4, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 24 and 30 months of age. Yearly visits are recommended on or after each birthday.

Where do you refer your patients if a specialist consultation is needed?

We utilize physicians and other health care providers from a variety of institutions, as well as local independent physicians and groups. We rely on our years of experience with these providers and feedback from patients to continually update our “network” of specialists. Our Referral Team works with our families to find the best care possible for your children.

What if I need a referral to a specialist? How much notice is required to provide an insurance referral? What information is needed for the referral?

Sometimes it may be necessary for our physicians to refer your child to a specialist, for diagnostic testing (such as X-rays, CT scans, Ultrasounds) or to a therapist (speech, physical, occupational). After an appointment, your doctor will coordinate with our Referral Team; then they will begin the process of obtaining the necessary information from your insurance company. You will be called when it is ready.  If you haven’t heard from us after 72 hours, please feel free to call to check the status of your referral.   Please do not make your appointment until you hear from us.

Additional requests, or renewals, can be obtained by calling our office at 512.255.8868 and speaking with a team member. When calling, be prepared with the following information when requesting a referral: date of appointment, name of the specialist, provider number for the specialist, and reason for the referral. We greatly appreciate 48 hours notice for us to prepare your child’s referral.

What if I need a prescription refill?

When you need a refill for a medication, we ask that you access the Patient Portal. Once the request has been processed, our Triage Team will reply letting you know it’s been sent to your pharmacy or that your provider must see you in the office before a refill can be authorized.
