Dr. Alyssa Murata
Originally from San Antonio, TX, Dr. Alyssa Murata received her undergraduate degree in Biomedical Sciences from Auburn University (War Eagle!). She also studied abroad in Salamanca, Spain, for a summer semester. As a bonus, Auburn won the National Football Championship during her junior year! She then attended medical school back home at UT Health San Antonio. When not studying or doing clinical rotations, she was very involved with the medical school’s Student-Run Free Clinics. She then moved to Houston for her pediatric residency at UT Health Science Center Houston, working at Children’s Memorial Hermann, Lyndon B. Johnson, and MD Anderson Hospitals. After residency, Dr. Murata found an exciting opportunity working as a general pediatrician in Hawaii on the island of Kauai, where her husband has family ties. They spent 3 years hiking and going to the beach as much as possible, and learning to surf (which her husband became quite good at, Dr. Murata not so much!). While this was a wonderful chapter of their lives, they felt the strong pull to return home to Texas after the birth of their first child.
